Rector's Message
Sunday
April 21, 2002Gasoline at one cent a gallon
My Dear Friends in Christ,
"The Leaven" greets you in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who was present at the creation when God created humankind. We human beings have been given life and a head full of gifts to meet the challenges we face from day to day.
Believe it or not, just about 86 years ago, a man named Louis Enricht announced to the wealthy investors of America, in April 1916, that he perfected a substitute for gasoline, making the price the cheapest in history of mankind.
With this application of two gallons of water to a special greenish fluid, would create the right mix to propel a car at the unbelievable price of one cent a gallon.
Many reporters and businessmen were impressed by tests demonstrations. As more and more influential people became interested, among them, Henry Ford, the German-born Enricht, was accused of selling his secret discovery to more than one source at the same time.
With other flaw-ridden deals, Enricht was ultimately imprisoned, and he and his one-cent-a gallon-idea died together, and the world was poorer for it.
Since, no one has come up with a creative and economically efficient idea to save us from the dizzying and sky-rocketing fuel prices we pay today.
Pray to the Lord to raise up another scientist with the imagination, but not the irresistible greed, of Louis Enricht.
Every Blessing,
Augustine Joseph
