OUR STRUGGLES WITH EVIL

My Dear Friends in Christ,

"The Leaven" greets you in the Name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who fought, and wrestled and defeated the Devil.  Today, He has given us the power even at the tender age of seven to do the same.

Before Samantha Runnion was even buried, Erica Pratt, a seven-year old, was ensnared into a similar trap that claimed the life of Samantha just a week earlier. Erica was at play with her younger sister, when a car pulled up, and one of two men grabbed her. But Erica was not prepared to go the way of Samantha.

She kicked, screamed, and struggled to set herself free, but to no avail. She was spirited away into the unknown, where she was placed into a squalid basement, gagged, with her hands duct taped, and left at the mercy of her captors.

But Erica still had some fight left. She put her teeth to work and gnawed insistently at the duct tape. With her hands freed, she rushed to the upper floor, smashed a window, and jumped to freedom.  In Dr. Martin Luther King's style she must have said: "Free, Free! Free at last!" Similar, is our fight with the Devil.

Yours in Christ,
